Google Android operating system is largely confined to smartphones. To expand the role of the Android software further, Google developed Android 3.0, nicknamed Honeycomb, an upgraded version of the popular operating system customized for tablets.
Motorola Xoom will be one of the first tablet PCs with the Android Honeycomb operating system.
Motorola Xoom Features
Motorola has designed Xoom primarily for Verizon Wireless. The tablet PC is endowed with high-end features, which will make it an able contender to Apple IPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab.
The 10.1-inch touch screen display of Motorola Xoom is larger than the displays of its competitor’s Apple iPad, (9.7-inch screen) and Samsung Galaxy Tab (7-inch display). Moreover, compared to the popular Apple and Samsung tablets, Motorola Xoom’s display has a higher resolution (1280 x 800-pixel).
The robust computing power of Motorola Xoom will be powered by the 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra processor. The 1GB RAM of the Motorola tablet will facilitate fast multitasking.
The stunning Motorola tablet PC will offer 32GB onboard storage space. The massive storage space could accommodate a huge cache of files and documents. However, if you are searching for additional storage space via external memory expansion, you have to wait until the second quarter of this year for the upgraded version of Xoom equipped with a microSD memory card slot.
Motorola Xoom is endowed with a higher resolution primary camera at the rear and a 2-megapixel front-facing secondary camera for making video calls. The 5-megapixel camera of the device could record full high-definition videos.
Through the micro HDMI port, the HD videos captured with Motorola Xoom’s camera could be viewed on the larger HDTV monitor. You can also stream content to your PC through the high-speed micro-USB port of the tablet.
The current version of Motorola Xoom will work on the 3G network of Verizon Wireless. In the near future, it can be upgraded to 4G. The Motorola tablet could be used for browsing the internet in the wireless Wi-Fi areas. It can display videos continuously for up to ten hours on a single battery charge.
The 3G-enabled Motorola Android tablet will be available in the first quarter of this year.
