Verizon Brings Rugged Android Phone Casio G’zone Commando

Casio G’zOne Commando is the first rugged Android phone in Verizon Wireless’s product portfolio. In addition to its ruggedized body, the Android Froyo powered handset is also noted for its high-security feature that protects the corporate emails.

Rugged design
Casio G’zOne Commando is ideally suited for workers working in hazardous environments such as construction sites, factory floors or warehouses and people functioning in busy business environments such as manufacturing, transportation, healthcare and utility sectors. The handset complies with the stringent Military Standards 810G norms. The tough casing of the handset is water, dust, and shock-resistant. It could withstand water pressure at a depth of 1m for up to 30minutes.

The Casio device could perform its normal functions when exposed to strong solar radiation, salt fog, and humidity. The rugged Android phone could work in extreme temperatures as low as -25-degree Celsius and as high as 85-degree Celsius. It is immune to vibration. The latest Casio’s G’zOne series model flaunts a bumper sandwich structure that accentuates the tough masculine style of the device. The 5.1-inch long, 2.6-inch wide and 0.6-inch thick tough handset weighs 5.4oz.

Touch panel
The touchscreen display of the smartphone is made out of 1mm thick glass. The 3.6-inch rugged LCD touch panel displays crisp and vibrant images of 480×800 pixel resolution. To ease typing, the virtual keyboard of the full touchscreen phone features T9 Trace, a unique feature that eliminates the hassle of hunting and hitting the keys on the touchscreen keyboard. Instead, users can locate the desired keys simply by gliding a finger or stylus on the keys of the virtual QWERTY keypad. With the Snap Out menu, you can navigate through the icons, widgets, and apps with simple thumb-only action.

Camera
You can snap photos or shoot videos on the go with the help of the 5-megapixel rear-facing camera of Casio G’zOne Commando. The camera is equipped with autofocus and LED flash.

Memory
With built-in 512MB RAM, Casio G’zOne Commando could support robust multitasking. Users could simultaneously operate several apps on the smartphone. You can listen to music while playing games or editing documents. The rugged smartphone offers a 1GB onboard storage space. Just like other smartphones, it supports up to 32GB of external memory expansion with microSD card. An 8GB microSD card is preinstalled on the smartphone.

Audio
Casio G’zOne Commando is noted for its high-quality acoustics. The ruggedized speakers, located at the front of the handset, produce powerful reverberating sound. According to Casio, the G’zOne Commando handset offers the highest speaker volume in the smartphone sector.

Messaging
You can activate the Message Read Out function while driving. The hands-free operation reads aloud unread messages stored in the phone. The Exchange Active Sync feature ensures the security of your corporate mails. In case of theft, you can wipe the sensitive data stashed in the phone from a remote location.

G’zGEAR
G’zGEAR is an advanced outdoor tool installed in the rugged smartphone. The ideal software for outdoor adventure, G’ZGEAR utilizes Triple Sensor technology to determine different parameters linked to an active lifestyle. It operates in eight modes. In the Earth Compass mode, it functions as a customizable compass. The built-in GPS antenna would display directions to prominent landmarks. You can even view detailed information from Bing Maps and Wikipedia.

Walking Counter features a pedometer and a Virtual Trek app. The pedometer is a perfect workout aid that measures distances, a number of daily, weekly and monthly steps and total energy consumed while brisk walking. The Virtual Trek app features five virtual trek trails with rich graphics.

In the Adventure Training mode, it could function as your virtual adventure or fitness trainer. The built-in Run Training app will allow you to compete with virtual opponents including famous athletes and wild beasts. The advanced sensors embedded in the smartphone detect and evaluate your running form.

The memories of a trip including information on temperature, current location and activities could be preserved and shared with your Facebook and Twitter contacts with Trip Memory.

Are you interested in fishing or boating? The Tides app could come to your aid. It displays detailed data of tide ebb and flow. It also provides relevant fishing information including the best fishing season.

You can even check the times of sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset. Users can also track the different phases of the moon from their current location.

In the Thermometer mode, the app displays the temperature of your current location in Celsius and Fahrenheit. You can compare the temperature with the temperature of multiple cities.

With the help of the built-in GPS, the Star Gazer mode displays the stars and constellations present in the night sky.

Entertainment
Verizon subscribers could access songs from V Cast Music. V Cast Video is the source of blockbuster movies and videos.

Connectivity
Casio G’zOne Commando features stereo Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headset jack. It enables high-speed data access in Wi-Fi hotspots. The 3G connection of the smartphone could be shared with up to five devices in mobile hotspots of the wireless carrier.

Navigation
The rugged Casio smartphone could be transformed into a navigation device. The VZ Navigator service of Verizon Wireless offers voice-guided turn-by-turn directions.

Price
Casio G’zOne Commando is available for $200 with a two-year Verizon contract. Verizon is offering unlimited data plans for monthly service fees starting from $30. The unlocked handset is priced at $450.

Casio G’zOne Commando vs. Motorola Defy
Motorola Defy is a water and dust resistant rugged phone running on the Android platform. Its tough display, made out of Gorilla Glass, is only 0.1-inch larger than the Casio G’zOne Commando touchscreen panel. Both the smartphones feature 5MP camera, 3.5mm audio jack, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, and 3G connectivity. Motorola Defy offers 2GB onboard storage, whereas the Casio handset comes with 1GB internal memory.

Both smartphones support up to 32GB memory expansion. The audio quality of Casio Commando is better than that of Motorola Defy. The G’zGEAR app, installed in Casio Commando, is an added advantage of the smartphone.
